GEORGETOWN UNIVERISTY, WASHINGTONDC – Two weeks ago InterHall held its annual Freshmen Housing Raffle. All week students were lined up in the LeaveyCenter and freshmen residence hall lobbies to purchase tickets for their chance to win one of six pre-designated housing units.
Each year GeorgetownUniversity’s InterHall Council raffles three apartments, two singles, and one Copley Suite. The housing units are donated and pre-designated by Georgetown University Housing Services and winners are allowed to choose their own roommates, provided they have housing eligibility.Although InterHall is not required to limit the price of tickets or number of tickets a student is allowed to purchase, the organization chooses to do so in order to ensure a fair housing raffle process for all Georgetown students. The organization began selling tickets on Monday, February 2, 2009 and the drawing was held at 4pm on Friday, February 6, 2009 in Sellinger Lounge. A crowd of students gathered in the lounge eagerly waiting for the tickets to be drawn and the winners to be announced. After the list of winners was compiled, the names and NetIDs were sent to the housing office, wich coordinates the housing arrangements with the winners.
All of the proceeds of the housing raffle are given back to Georgetown students through a variety of methods.Primarily, InterHall organizes and hosts many campus wide events. These events include Homecoming Bingo and Bingo is for Lovers, the Target Bus Trip, and InterHalloween.Additionally, InterHall helps sponsor the Collegiate Readership Program, providing campus residents with free newspapers including the Washington Post, USA Today, and the New York Times.Lastly, InterHall serves as a resource for funding, sponsoring events on campus. In the past InterHall has sponsored an array of campus events such as the Southwest Quad’s Valentine’s Day dance, the L.A.S.A. GALA, the Freshmen Rave, and the Darnall Winter Ball.
