About InterHall

What is InterHall?

InterHall is Georgetown University's Inter-Residence Hall Council. Founded in 1997, InterHall seeks to give students the power and responsibility to improve residence life. With representatives from every class and every hall, InterHall puts residents first and champions their interests.

What do you like about your residence hall? What would you like to change? InterHall strives to be an advocate for students to the administration and campus as a whole, and we fight for your needs and wants. We are strong promoters of community development and growth, and our initiatives and events help to create strong bonds between all residents and their community on campus.

Purpose

The Purpose of this organization is to improve residence life through student advocacy and community development.  InterHall achieves it's purpose through community councils and presidents, meeting with administrators, and collaboration with student groups.

Mission Statement

"InterHall is an independent student group that advocates on behalf of on-campus residents, facilitates residential programming, and sponsors student organizations with the aim of fostering a vibrant  on-campus community."

Who's in InterHall?

InterHall is comprised of an Executive Board, and a General Assembly. The Executive Board consists of one President, five  Vice Presidents, and the Secretary. The General Assembly, is comprised of students who apply at the beginning of the academic year. Representatives serve on committees and work to promote the interests of Georgetown's undergraduate residents.

What does InterHall do?

 Housing Raffles

InterHall hosts two housing raffles each year: one in October for upperclassmen and the other in January for freshmen.  Students can buy raffle tickets to win apartments in Village A, Alumni Square, Henle and Nevils,  as well as  Copley suits and singles.

InterHalloween

Every Halloween InterHall hosts an evening of tricks, treats and tons of fun with the annual InterHalloween celebration.  Residence halls and campus organizations create and staff awesome booths with games like bobbing for apples, carving pumpkins, and costume contests.  Also, many booths provide delicious snacks and beverages for the evening such as smores, apple cider and hot chocolate.

Bingo

Each year InterHall hosts BINGO games in Alumni Lounge.  These events are always well attended and have great prizes.  In the past, residents have won gift cards to local restaurants and stores, movies, food, appliances, season basketball tickets, and much more!  So come join us for a night of fun, food, and BINGO!

Newspapers

The Collegiate Readership Program allows students to access three of ’s premiere news publications five days a week with just their GoCard.  With locations in Red Square, Alumni Square, Leo’s and Uncommon Grounds, Georgetown’s Readership Program is available to students all across campus.  Please enjoy reading  the USA Today, the New York Times, and the Washington Post provided by InterHall, the Corp, GUSA, the Provost, and the Senior Vice President.

Event Funding

InterHall also facilitates and funds residential programming designed to involve and promote unity among multiple halls on campus.  During General Assembly meetings, InterHall is presented with and debates proposals from campus groups seeking funding for events like dances, trips, guest speakers, and more!

Conferences

Each year Georgetown’s InterHall forms a delegation to attend three residence life conferences.  These conferences allow our delegation members to meet, learn with, and form connections with other student leaders at the regional and national levels.  These fun, energetic conferences are filled with workshop sessions on diversity issues, leadership development, event/program management, social and civic engagement, and much, much more.  Georgetown delegates are expected to attend these workshops and some have even led these workshops sessions in the past!

Bus Trips

Forget a towel?  Need more light bulbs?  At the beginning of the falls semester, InterHall sponsors Target bus trips for students to grab their last minute finishing touches to their residence halls, or to pick up things they might have forgotten at home.  The fund doesn’t end there; InterHall has sponsored other bus trips to locations such as New York City for heavily subsidized costs.  Join us for the ride!
