About Us
Purpose
As the elected voice of the student body, the Student Association is responsible for working with University administrators and other interested parties in order to improve and enhance the student experience. The Student Association deals with countless issues (taking place both on campus and off), including housing and dining hall policies, safety, student life and health, programming, diversity, athletics and the arts. From the President to members of the Cabinet, Student Association officials work daily to ensure that students' concerns are heard and needs are met.

Organization
The President and Vice President, elected by the entire undergraduate population each year, oversee an
Executive Staff that deals with the day-to-day operations of the Student Association.
Additionally, the President and Vice President appoint, with confirmation by the Legislature, members of several
Action Teams, which work on issues ranging from Academic Affairs to Safety. Anyone can join an Action Team, and the teams are designed to be project-oriented and respond quickly to changing student body needs and priorities.
The President and Vice-President also appoint leaders of the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Class Committees. Class Committees are a great way for students to meet people in their class by planning social, fundraising, and community service activities. Applications will be available for Freshman Class Committee leadership positions in the fall, but committees are generally very flexible and welcoming of new members throughout the year.
In addition, the Executives appoint student representatives to various
External Boards, including the Board of Directors and the Speech and Expression Committee. Our external board representatives are able to meet directly with the administrators making decisions that affect every aspect of student life at Georgetown, and are extremely useful advocates for student needs and desires. Please click
here for descriptions of the mission of each External Board.
The
Senate is the legislative policymaking body that works in tandem with the Executive, often taking the needs and desires of students and writing a corresponding resolution which the Executive then enacts. Senate districts are based on residence, and elections will be held in late September or early October.
Accomplishments
The Student Association has a long history of success in its mission to advocate for what Hoyas need and want. Some of our biggest accomplishments in the past year include:
- Expanding GUTS bus service - we doubled the frequency of weekend bus, expanded Saturday service to midnight, and added service on Sunday afternoons for the first time ever
- We opened up Riggs Library during finals so that students would have the opportunity to study in one of Georgetown's greatest spaces, and one which few students had the opportunity to visit. The president's office has agreed to allow more study days in Riggs in the future.
- Student Association reform and legislative expansions
- Defeat of the keg ban
- Instituting GUSA Summer Fellows Program
- Initiating a GUSA art series
