Who We Are
GUMSHOE is DC's largest student-run math and science outreach organization. The program was founded in 2007 and currently consists of over 75 Georgetown undergraduate and graduate students who serve as tutors for hundreds of elementary, middle, and high school students around the city.
Additionally, GUMSHOE hosts the annual Discovery Summit, a symposium assembling the most talented and motivated students at local high schools for a day of science discovery and career exploration. (To see pictures from 2011's Discovery Summit, click on the Photos tab at the top of the page.)
GUMSHOE was voted Georgetown's Outstanding Direct Service Organization by the Center for Social Justice in 2009.
Our Mission
GUMSHOE aims to foster an appreciation for and understanding of mathematics and the natural sciences among students in DC’s Public School system. The organization provides an opportunity for Georgetown’s finest minds to use their passion for and talent in the sciences to serve others. The program seeks to address the United States’ growing concern with its lack of scientists, engineers and mathematicians by instilling, in the young people GUMSHOE serves, a sense of curiosity and a motivation to discover.
