Originally intended as a university-wide clearinghouse for the promotion of individual relief efforts within the Georgetown campus, GU HERE relatively quickly assumed its present role as the primary facilitator of Georgetown's hurricane relief efforts. Through several successful drives and functions organized by GU HERE, including the Gaston Hall Benefit Concert and the Hilltop Auction, the Georgetown community helped raise over $35,000 for the American Red Cross and Catholic Relief Services.
Witnessing the more recent natural disasters around the globe, including Hurricane Rita and the South Asian earthquake, GU HERE is committed to offer the Georgetown community its continued effort in managing and mobilizing campus relief activity. GU HERE intends to continue to serve as the primary coordinators of the campus's hurricane relief efforts, which will expectedly take on revived precedence with the impending devastation of Hurricane Wilma. In addition, the group will continue to offer its assistance and promotion to other disaster relief efforts within the Georgetown community.
