About GPB
The Georgetown Program Board, better known as GPB, is a student-directed campus-wide group comprised of nine sub-commitees, and is dedicated to providing low-cost entertainment to all members of the Georgetown student body. What does this mean in practical terms?
- Affordable tickets to concerts
- Free films in the ICC Auditorium every weekend
- Off-campus trips to museums, sporting events and more
- Sponsorship of events including the Mr. Georgetown Pageant
- Free seasonal cookies in Red Square
- Affordable sound system rentals for Georgetown functions
- GPB give-aways including raffles, pennants and magnets
Membership for GPB is open, so no application process is necessary. Our objective as an organization is essentially to spend the entirety of our budget to help Georgetown students have (non-alcoholic) fun, and we would love your input!
Our Mission
GPB was founded in 1984 under the auspices of the Office of Student Programs Georgetown. GPB is dedicated to providing all students with a diverse selection of high quality, affordable, non-alcoholic entertainment. The board is comprised entirely of students with an executive board of ten members.
GPB is committed to helping students develop leadership skills through programming. Without the dozens of committee volunteers who give input on events and volunteer to coordinate them, none of our events would be possible.
Events put on by GPB run the gamut from concerts such as Billy Joel, A Tribe Called Quest, and Widespread Panic, to comedy acts like Norm MacDonald and Dave Chapelle. Free weekend movies in ICC Auditorium have been a staple for years, especially the annual showing of The Exorcist in Gaston Hall on Halloween, but our programming has varied greatly throughout the years, encompassing everything from a speech by Jerry Springer to a 4-hour Longest Kiss contest in Red Square.
General Member Meetings
General member meetings are held every Wednesday night in White Gravenor 204 from 9:00 pm to 9:45 pm. During general member meetings, each of our nine sub-committees presents the ideas that they have developed for GPB events during the week. All members who have attended two or more previous GPB general member meetings are then allowed to vote in favor of the events that they believe our budget should be spent on. During this time, other student groups soliciting co-sponsorships will also present their proposals. Finally, because we believe that great food is an integral part of student programming, you can expect to chow down on pizza, ice cream, chips or some other sort of snack as a reward for your participation.
We strongly encourage all interested members to attend general member meetings, even if it's your first time. If you can't make the entirety of the meeting, but still have an idea that you'd like to share with us, just drop by for fifteen minutes at your convenience or stop by during our office hours.
