Our Definition of Leadership:
Leadership is a process of committed action that brings about effective change. It encourages individuals, through the creation of a shared vision and a plan of action, to work as a team to achieve this change. GOLD leaders will initiate this transformation and in doing so will bring out the best both in ourselves and in the individuals we lead.
Our Programs Throughout the Year:
Leadership & Beyond
This pre-orientation program examines and develops leadership skills while introducing new students to life at Georgetown. The program focuses on Citizen and Servant Leadership styles at Georgetown and in the surrounding community. Participants explore leadership through a variety of activities which focus on group dynamics, motivation, goal setting, time management, risk taking, and coalition building. L&B gives new students the chance to interact with upper-class mentors who will help welcome them to Georgetown not only during pre-orientation, but "beyond" the program during the academic year.
The Emerging Leaders program is designed to help first year students explore leadership at Georgetown University and beyond. Freshmen are provided with an opportunity for self-discovery, learning about leadership, and leadership practice. The program focuses on several leadership models, including servant leadership, the social change model, and situational leadership. We will focus on developing skills such as goal setting and creating effective group dynamics, as well as discussing issues that effect leaders in their first year at Georgetown. The program meets once a week for 8 weeks and also hosts a student leadership panels and a concluding dinner ceremony.
