The Fire This Time

Lauren Nicole Lightfoot, Co-Editor-in-Chief

Lauren Nicole Lightfoot is a junior from Lithonia, GA. This is Lauren’s third year with The Fire This Time and she is ecstatic to serve as co-editor-in-chief with her homeslice, Erica Beal. Lauren is a transfer to the College from the MSB and is currently pursuing a degree in English. She loves to write and spends most of her free time looking up strange facts about her favorite movie, The Sound of Music. Besides Julie Andrews, Lauren’s personal heroes include her mom and her uncle, Larry Epps.
Lauren’s goal is to leave the Fire in a better, more prominent place in the campus gaze than it was in when she began her editorship. She is excited to even be a part of the brilliance that is The Fire This Time, and almost as excited about being able to share her vision for The Fire with you all!

Erica Beal, Co-Editor-in-Chief

Ben Truman, News Editor
Ben Truman is a senior in the College, majoring in English. Starting out as a staff writer, Truman has been an active member of The Fire This Time since his sophomore year. As the current News Editor, Ben feels that the concerns and experiences of minorities on Georgetown’s campus are grossly underrepresented in the University’s mainstream publications. For this reason, Truman wishes to disseminate noteworthy events that affect minorities of every hue.
By the end of his tenure as News Editor, he hopes to leave a foundation of hard-hitting news that encourages its readers to think critically as to why certain events occur. “If I have managed to change the way in which a pocket of people on this campus view their surroundings, I think that The Fire This Time has accomplished a significant feat. In summation, I leave you with my journalistic philosophy which states that “The news of today is the guide for tomorrow.”

Ashish Pradhan, Slant Editor
Ashish Pradhan is a senior in the college majoring in Government and English. He is an international student from Kathmandu, Nepal and has spent the last 3 years at Georgetown immersing himself in cultures he would’ve otherwise never encountered in Nepal. Ashish also proudly introduces many to his own country and traditions at the same time. He has been working with The Fire This Time since 2006 with the hopes of not only satiating his passion for writing, but also enlightening and empowering a demographic within the Georgetown population who are otherwise grossly unrepresented. He hopes to see the paper grow this year and in the years beyond his time behind the gates of 37th and O street.

Sable Tempest Sweeper, Online Editor

Coming from the small city of Passaic, New Jersey and onto the political, diverse scene of Washington, DC, Sable Tempest Sweeper has come a long way. Growing up as an only child, Sable used writing to express her thoughts, feelings and opinions. Besides having a passion for writing, Sable has great interest in theater and ultimately has dreams of becoming a famous actress.
Sable Tempest Sweeper is a senior at Georgetown University, double majoring in English and
Sociology with a minor in Inter-Arts. While in college, Sable retired from athletics and placed more focus on her writing. She landed an impressive editorial internship with VIBE Magazine and is guest writer for "imperiousent.com." Additionally, she has written many independent articles for music artists, contributed to the HOYA, and maintains her own personal blog [sabletempest.wordpress.com]. As the online editor-in-chief, Sweeper wishes not only to connect The Fire this Time to the Georgetown campus, but to electronically present the magazine to those outside of the Georgetown community.

Kathy Gu, Co-Managing Editor
Kathy is currently a co-managing editor of The Fire This Time. Born in Shanghai, China, Kathy later relocated to New York City. Upon her arrival at Georgetown, Kathy was faced with a difference in culture and soon found herself struggling to find her place on campus. For this reason, she hopes that The Fire This Time will be home to others who are also searching for themselves in the midst of a new environment.
Serving as The Fire’s SOCA (Students of Color Alliance) representative for three semesters, she sought to raise awareness of The Fire and all that it can offer to students of various backgrounds. Kathy has also pushed for the publication to extend itself to more communities and to truly be a voice for students of all cultures and backgrounds. Now as a Georgetown senior, managing editor, and photographer, she aims to continuously bolster the paper’s image and reputation as an important campus publication.

Trevor Jaikissoon, Co-Managing Editor
Trevor Jaikissoon is the co-managing editor for The Fire This Time. He is currently a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in English and pursuing a double minor in Government and Philosophy. Trevor is from The Bronx in New York (THE Bronx, not just Bronx).

Courtney Richardson, Layout Editor
Originally from Chicago, Courtney is a junior in the McDonough School of Business. As a marketing major with a minor in sociology, Courtney has always had an interest in design and creative production. She hopes to refresh the look of The Fire by making sure that the visual appearance of each issue be
just as compelling as the cannon of voices found inside. By updating the paper's outward appearance Courtney wants to appeal to readers we have not been able to reach in the past. She strongly believes that The Fire has the potential to be a candid outlet for Georgetown's community of color and hopes her efforts will play a part in making that mission a reality.

Poliann Hardeo, Layout Editor

A junior in the SFS, Polliann Hardeo is majoring in International Culture and Politics with a certificate in Women and Gender Studies. She has a deep interest in international policies, especially cultural impacts on policy making. These interests stem from her family's own political involvement in the West Indies. Hardeo was born in Trinidad and Tobago, but relocated to Houston, TX soon after. Nonetheless, her culture and beliefs remain deeply embedded in her East Indian heritage from Trinidad. She hopes to one day bring awareness about the diverse range of possibilities that can transform developing nations without imposing on culture. Poliann similarly believes that The Fire This Time is a microcosm of the many different cultures and beliefs present on Georgetown's campus, and is excited to share her thoughts with so many gifted and passionate people.
