Georgetown University Amnesty International

About Us

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. Independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion, Amnesty International is concerned solely with the impartial protection of human rights. Founded in 1961, it has sought to guard the basic human rights as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Currently, it has over 2.2 million members in over 150 countries campaigning towards preventing and ending human right abuses. This year (2007-2008), the Georgetown University chapter has focused its campaign against torture and extraordinary rendition. The chapter has organized several events such as the screening of the Road to Guantanamo as well as trips to rallies. Keeping to its philosophy, we have also focused on the Burma issue and invited speakers during a discussion panel. We have meetings every Wednesday nights at 8:15 pm in ICC 213. Meetings involve discussions about events and recent incidents concerning human rights. New members are always welcome!
